Love God

In the book of Matthew (22:35-40), a lawyer asked Jesus a big question, "What is the greatest commandment?" Now, when you realize that there were over 600 commandments in the Old Testament, how do pick just one? Jesus was a pretty smart guy though and came back with the first thing we focus on at Crestview. He told the lawyer to "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind." Yeah, ok. But what does that look like?

A love for God starts where love for anything starts - in your heart. Your heart is the core of who you are and it feeds your soul, mind and body. We strive to grow in our faith, love and worship of God by...

  1. Protecting our hearts from evil. (Prov. 4:23 Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.)
  2. Filling our hearts with the goodness of God's Word. (Luke 6:45 The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil.)
  3. Choosing purity through God's help. (Ps. 24:3-4 Who shall ascend the hill of the LORD? And who shall stand in his holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully.)

We desire these things because when we do, we get to see God in this life by faith and in eternity by sight. However, God doesn't promote a legalistic system bent on enforcing a set of religious rules. Rather, our hearts are filled with joy when we see the positive effects God's love has on the world around us.
